Painting a Better Tomorrow

An annual shelter care and volunteer blitz program

Painting a Better Tomorrow is an annual one-day event and volunteer blitz program.  The Home Builders Foundation will coordinate teams of volunteers from the home building community to provide painting, cleaning and minor repairs to facilities owned or operated by non-profit service providers serving the homeless in the greater Portland Metropolitan region.

The Foundation’s shelter building arm, HomeAid Portland, builds or renovates dignified housing for homeless families so they can rebuild their lives. A natural offshoot of HomeAid Portland, this shelter care, and one-day volunteer blitz program addresses the growing need for painting and general maintenance to facilities AND allows industry leaders to directly contribute to the community by doing what they do best.

On November 7, 2009, members and friends of the Home Builders Association (HBA) and Foundation volunteered their time, donated supplies and organized work crews to complete projects in one-day.  In the past 4 years, more than 40 nonprofit agencies in the Portland metro area have benefited from the work of 50 teams (3000+ volunteer hours) from over 75 different companies in the industry.

The impact of one day, and one mission begins with the residents of the shelters. Volunteers walk away with a profound sense of accomplishment and pride of work. The community is united and enhanced by sharing the gift of HOPE, and a sense of HOME.
